REVIEW: Tabula Rasa by Kristen Lippert-Martin

Tabula Rasa
The Bourne Identity meets Divergent in this heart-pounding debut.

Sixteen-year-old Sarah has a rare chance at a new life. Or so the doctors tell her. She’s been undergoing a cutting-edge procedure that will render her a tabula rasa—a blank slate. Memory by memory her troubled past is being taken away.

But when her final surgery is interrupted and a team of elite soldiers invades the isolated hospital under cover of a massive blizzard, her fresh start could be her end.

Navigating familiar halls that have become a dangerous maze with the help of a teen computer hacker who's trying to bring the hospital down for his own reasons, Sarah starts to piece together who she is and why someone would want her erased. And she won’t be silenced again.

A high-stakes thriller featuring a non-stop race for survival and a smart heroine who will risk everything, Tabula Rasa is, in short, unforgettable.

I received an ecopy of this book via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

MY THOUGHTS
This book was, honestly, not what I was expecting. Not that that's a bad thing, but I was expecting a high sci-fi book for some reason and got a thriller (with some sci-fi) instead.
Again, not that that's a bad thing.

This book takes place in a world very close to present day. The science and technology is a bit more advanced, but the world as a whole is pretty much the same (though, we don't see very much of that world). Our main character resides in a hospital where her memories are being erased because she, apparently, went through a very traumatic experience. Though, Sarah, as she is called, has absolutely no memory of her life.
I'm always a sucker for books involving memory loss! And right from the start I was immersed in this book!
There is absolutely no such thing as a boring moment in this book, the entire book takes place in a very short time-span and almost every moment includes the main character running for her life, fighting for her life, and trying to piece together who she is.
And it's very interesting to see everything come together!
There is also a bit of a romance in the book, since it is YA, but it doesn't dominate the story and it actually blends into the book very well! I have absolutely no complaints about the romance! (I almost always do, so it'd kind of odd).

I liked so many things about this book that it's hard for me to pinpoint what I didn't like about this book. I enjoyed reading this book, but some things just prevented me from connecting with it. One problem I might've had was that I just didn't have a strong connection to Sarah. I liked her and I felt for her (mostly because I hated the villain so frexing much!), but I just did not feel that connection. And I loved how exciting this book was, but at times it just got to the point that there was too much happening at once to wrap my head around.
I really did enjoy this book. I thought it was exciting and unique, I only had a few problems, but I still enjoyed this book overall.

IN CONCLUSION
Very fast-paced, exciting, and it's a book that keeps you guessing! There is a overall thriller vibe to this book, but there's also some sci-fi and even a bit of romance for those who like a little of that!
If you like you're thriller with a side of sci-fi, this book's for you!

I hereby give this book
3.5 Wheels
Meaning: I liked it, but it wasn't quite amazing.
